When the backpack will be handed out in high volumes, what matters is low weight, an easy-to-brand front panel and enough durability for event use. Drawstring bags work well here: they take up little space, can hold documents or event supplies, and suit screen printing or transfer on a large area.
Check the reinforced corners and the thickness of the cord, because that is where a poor-quality backpack shows first. Also avoid placing the logo across eyelets or seams: it distorts and is harder to read, especially if you make it very large and full colour.

If it will be used by people travelling by tube, train or around the city, look for an opening against the back and less exposed zips. An anti-theft backpack solves that without drawing attention, and the logo usually looks better as a transfer or small embroidery to keep the overall look discreet.
The typical mistake is to treat it like just another promotional backpack and load it with a large, highly visible logo. For everyday use, black, grey or navy works better, and it is worth checking practical details too, such as a bottle pocket or reflective elements if people use it on a bike.
